You’ve heard the view that men in mid-life are often at high risk for throwing over their wives and children, buying the hot new red sports car, and having affairs with women half their age and younger. Often the “mid-life” crisis is mentioned to account for this behavior and is sometimes spoken of as if it was some kind of no-fault disease that successful men, in particular, catch once they hit 40 or 50. Don’t buy it! The “mid-life crisis” is mostly a myth that has little empirical support. The culprit most likely is a combination of narcissism and poor impulse control.
Search for a mental health professional near you.
I know of a number of clients, neighbors, and even some colleagues (who should know better by the way) who are suffering from the so-called “mid-life crisis.” They have decided to have marital affairs, leave (or strongly consider leaving) their spouse and children for new love, and have left their jobs for more creative and enjoyable pursuits.

Ovarian Cancer can be segmented into 4 stages, stage I to stage IV. The staging of the disease is done based on the extent of the spreading of cancer. In stage I of ovarian cancer, the cancer stays confined within both or any one of the ovaries. In the stage II, cancer invades other organs located in the pelvic region of the patient’s body for instance fallopian tubes, uterus, sigmoid colon or the bladder of a woman. In stage III the patients experience spreading of the cancer either to their abdominal lining or to their lymph nodes. Stage IV of ovarian cancer is marked by spreading of cancer either to the distant organs like lungs and liver or tissues located outside the patient’s abdominal cavity.

It’s time for hot romance, right? Not so fast. Valentine’s Day underscores a myth about successful relationships that should be addressed to avoid potential disappointment and upset.
Somehow our cultural myth is that successful intimate relationships are all about the hot romance. Eyes meet across a crowded room and you get love at first sight. Then, the romance begins…special gifts, infatuation, hot sex, more hot sex, even more hot sex, and so forth forevermore. The message is that intimate relationships are all about the passion. The person you are most sexually attracted to is the person you should spend the rest of your life with, right? Not quite. Quality empirical research as well as clinical practice indicates otherwise. The story is much more complicated than the notion that you should go for the one you are most sexually attracted to.
