Reading sunscreen labels can feel a little bit like staying out in the sun too long: the mind reels. For example, what exactly is a sun protection factor? Is a lotion with an SPF of 30 twice as protective as one rated SPF 15? What about SPF 100? Is that three times better?

After 33 years of debate and consideration, the Food and Drug Administration has finally shed official light on the subject, issuing new rules about the kinds of solar radiation that sunscreens should protect against, the limits of SPF numbers and the essentially bogus claims that some of these products make about being water- and sweat-proof.

What is the Best Form of Cardiovascular Exercise?

Cardiovascular Exercise

Cardiovascular exercise, sometimes called cardio, is exercise that strengthens your heart and respiratory system. The exercises that are considered cardiovascular are called aerobic exercises, because they require breathing and a long period of exertion to complete, as opposed to anaerobic exercises, which aren’t affected by breathing. Walking, running, swimming, and cycling are all forms of aerobic exercise, because they strengthen the heart and respiratory system through a long period of exertion and require a large amount of oxygen. Anaerobic exercises include weight lifting and sprinting, because they promote larger muscle mass and muscle development while not requiring a large amount of work from the heart or respiratory system.

Running

Running is one of the easiest cardiovascular exercises to get started with, because it requires little equipment besides proper running shoes. R

Led by economists at Harvard and MIT, and released Thursday by the National Bureau of Economic Research, the study found that having Medicaid significantly increased the chances people will perceive their health as being good to excellent, while decreasing the likelihood they’ll have to borrow money or skip paying other bills because of medical expenses.
