How to Make Breakfast Part of your Day

Breakfast really is the best meal of the day. Your body is essentially fasting during sleep time. By the time morning comes it needs to be nourished with the right food and fast. Breakfast provides you with energy for the long day ahead and helps ward off cravings. Essentially, eating breakfast helps you make better food choices the rest of the day.

The first step is to learn how to make breakfast a part of your day. This comes with preparation, creativity and an acceptance that eating breakfast is good for your body.

Make Breakfast Part of your Day by Preparing It the Night Before

You probably spend some time preparing your lunch at night, so preparing your breakfast will only take an extra five minutes. Smoothies are an ideal choice for people pressed for time or for those who don’t like to eat a lot in the morning. Smoothies have valuable nutrients and are filling and wholesome. Make your smoothie after supper and let it chill over night. Below is an example of a smoothie.

  • One scoop strawberry soy or whey protein power
  • One cup strawberry soy milk or skim milk
  • Half a cup of raspberries
  • Half a cup of strawberries
  • Four ice cubes

Another way to prepare breakfast at night is to use frozen berries. Place some frozen berries in a small container and place in fridge. Take another container and put in a individual packet of plain oatmeal. The next morning, place the now melted berries in with the oatmeal after adding hot water. The berries will be just right and the berry juice will make it look delicious.

If this seems boring, add a dash of brown sugar. You can eat this breakfast meal while you get ready to go (since it’s in the container) or warm it up once you get to work.

How Creativity Can Help Make Breakfast Part of your Day

Many people believe that breakfast only consists of eggs, bacon and sausage and that it’s only eaten on Saturday mornings. During the rest of the week they either don’t eat breakfast at all or think it means boring oatmeal. However, like any other meal, breakfast can be made interesting any day of the week. Below are two examples of a creative healthy breakfast.

Oatmeal Crunch

  • One packet of plain oatmeal
  • Half cup of chocolate soy milk (optional)
  • One tablespoon crunchy peanut butter
  • Half a banana mashed up

Blend in milk and soy milk with oatmeal and cook as normal. Then stir in peanut butter and banana.

Homemade Egg Muffin

  • One cup of egg whites (or two eggs)
  • One multi-grain english muffin
  • Two slices of tomato
  • Palm sized amount of shredded mozza cheese
  • Microwave eggs and divide in half, putting one half on each muffin piece. Place tomato and cheese on both halves.

Eat Something Small to Make Breakfast Part of your Day

It’s important to get something down because the body has been deprived of nutrients all night. The longer you let the body starve the more susceptible you’ll be to over eating later in the day. It will also make junk food and sweet treats harder to resist later at night.

Some people simply do not like eating early in the morning, but there are lighter options that will at least get something in your system.

Lighter options include:

  • Granola Bar (preferably with only four grams of sugar and no higher than 150 calories)
  • Glass of juice and a palm sized serving of almonds (no salt)
  • Half a cup of vanilla yogurt mixed with half a cup of blueberries
  • Four multi-grain crackers with sugar free peanut butter

Remember that breakfast helps you eat well during the course of your day thus helping you keep your fitness and health program on track.
