A new Facebook for fitness

Fitocracy cleverly combines fitness goals and social media.Fitocracy is an open forum for fitness enthusiasts to log and share their workouts with friends. (Like!) The website works on a point-scale increasing your score as you keep logging your workout routines, which is great if youre competitive like me.

To sign-up you have to create a username and password just like Facebook. Once you have set up an account you can start to build your profile by uploading a picture, writing a bio and finding followers. Theres even an option to post your exercise status so people can join you (or just encourage you from the sidelines).

Once you start logging your practices, you will begin to earn points and increase levels. The homepage also lets you have access to other peoples progress so you can view each others workouts and earnings.

New York Pro Fitness Preview

Seventeen women have stepped up to compete in the 2011 New York Pro Fitness. This will be the last chance for women to qualify for the 2011 Fitness Olympia, in the United States. Two more shows remain but are outside of the states. A number of the field will be making their pro debuts and its exciting to see what they bring to the pro scene. Jodi Boam is an exciting new-comer out of Canada and one to watch in the routine rounds. Carrie Simmons will bring the New York crowd to feet with her routine if its anything like her Team Universe performance. Camala Rodriquez and Bethany Wagner are the two favorites heading into the show based on their previous performances and standings in the big leagues. They were both in the top 6 at the Fitness International, both have pro wins and it could be a showdown between the two of them. Can anyone upset them? Absolutely but we wont find out until tonight.

Getting Started with Exercise and Physical Fitness

Exercise is fun for the young who are in good health. Physical fitness for them is easy and effortless. Becoming physically fit can be a difficult and punishing task when one is out of shape. The key to physical fitness for the out-of-shape individuals is to approach exercise and work-outs very gradually.

Physical Fitness Requires Time and Patience

To achieve fitness one must compensate with patience what he/she lacks in physical stamina. If one proceeds too quickly or too impatiently, then exercise can become “a cruel and an unusual punishment”. Chances of of failure would then rise. It takes time for the body to make the necessary physiological and biochemical adjustments that improve stamina, strength and endurance so that one can engage in prolonged and rigorous activities.

Marc Grondahl Named Chairman of Planet Fitness

NEWINGTON, NH — Planet Fitness co-founder Marc Grondahl has been named chairman of the companys board of directors.

Grondahl, 44, had served as the chief financial officer of the Newington, NH-based company until April, when Jayne Conway took over that role.

Marcs tremendous vision has always been a key to our growth, and we want to retain that for the long term, Planet Fitness CEO Mike Grondahl, Marcs brother, said in a statement.
